One Good Thing About Music…A B4 Peace Monthly Challenge

In August, everyday gurus looks at music for the Monthly Peace Challenge. Kozo writes, “Post anything about the intersection of music and peace.”

Peace and music…hmm, talk about a wide range to cover. With so many popular songs about peace, it would be best, I thought, to narrow the selection to holiday songs.

(Psst, Christmas is coming around soon!)

For me, a holiday song that comes first to mind and invokes a real sense of peace is the classic song, Silent Night.

Most of us have heard many variations performed on this old song; with the melody written in 1818 (and, imagine, it is still a big HIT!) by Franz Xavier Gruber and lyrics done by Father Joseph Mohr, but my favorite all-time version is by the band Pink Martini.

In this video you will hear the original German lyrics, followed by Arabic and English versions sung oh, so beautiful but hey, take a look for yourself…

Since stories fill my head, for one little girl, Sasha, the song Silent Night is both a special song celebrating the birth of the Divine Savior and the start of her new love life.

“In the morning,” Sasha says, “when I look outside my bedroom window, Charlie, the mouse catcher cat, usually finds some way to curl himself into a neat ball to snooze the day away. I bet he dreams up wicked cat and mouse chases!

“I knew it was far too early, but my family decided that in the month of August, since my adoption was finally happening, we would celebrate our family Christmas. I cannot describe what joy, love and excitement it all is when you finally know you have a forever home; it is like the ultimate holiday gift.”

Every first weekend in August, Sasha’s family gathers around the beautiful pre-lit evergreen artificial Christmas tree. As Sasha wipes away a tear, she leans close into her mother’s arms as they all sing Silent Night.

“Thank you,” Sasha says as she looks up at her mom and dad. She whispers, “This is the peace from heaven I always dreamed about.”

Charlie brushes by Sasha’s ankles. He looks up at her, his yellow colored eyes full of love and purrs in agreement.

What holiday song brings a sense of peace to your heart?

What a touching story. Really meaningful
Silent Night has always been one of my favorite. We have my Dad’s letters from WWII during those Christmases – he talks about that hymn. Those held different meaning in battle eras – not at all like the holiday mall frenzy these days.

Love this multilingual version of this classic song. I was always drawn to this song as a child. Perhaps I was searching for peace from an early age.
I also love this story. What a wonderful way to celebrate August 1st. So happy to visit you after a month off blogging, my dear friend. {{{Hugs}}} Kozo

That is a special Christmas song and the version with three languages seems even more peaceful. We all have to get along in order to have peace.

For me I love Drummer Boy. My grandfather hummed it all the time and I miss hearing him, but now think of him every time I hear the song.
