Weekly Photo Challenge: Thankful

There is a woman at church who challenges me every time I see her. When she asked me her question, I have to admit, the first few times, I was always flustered. After I thought about it, it actually made me uncomfortable that I could not answer her without pausing to think deeply on the answer.

Her question was easy. The answer should be right there ready to blurt out at the instant someone asks.

Why was it so hard for me to think, on the spot, the question, “What was the one thing I was thankful for today?

Seriously. The first time she asked me, it was as if my whole brain turned to rocks and it began to shut down.

The Rocks

A brain turned to rocks…

Me: Uh, I don’t know. Let’s see. Um, uh, well…the one thing I am thankful for today is…uh, why you asking me this, Mrs. V? You know I barely think about anything useful let alone what I am thankful for…

The Pretzel Image

Who dares to play with their pretzels?!?

Mrs. V.: We have many opportunities, big and small; throughout the day…if you take a few minutes throughout the day looking for grateful instances, by the end of the day, you will have collected a basket full of those thankful moments.

Taking Mrs. V.’s wisdom words to heart, I am thankful today for all the blessings that have come my way, so many taken for granted; like good health, freedom to worship, loving family and friends, opportunities to express creative works without persecution and my home country, the United States.

The Fall Sunset

For this glorious sunset this evening, I am thankful.

What is the one thing you are thankful for today?

Thankful. In the United States, yesterday was Thanksgiving, a holiday where people spend time with family and friends and remember the things they’re thankful for.

Sunshine, when I woke up this morning, I was thankful for the comfortable position I was laying: my husband on the right, without his elbow in my face, Little Binky on the left, instead on my head and me in the middle… with a headache…well, I can’t have everything, can I? Beautiful sunset 🙂

*smiling* aww, Little Binky, what a little cutie! i believe you were right in the place you needed to be…have a wonderful week, AW. (I am now going for abbreviations. haha 🙂 )

    very true sunshine.
When we take a moment to think we can think of so many things we take for granted, instead of be thankful. we cannot be thankful enough for good health. I simple cold makes us realize how fragile our bodies are.

    • Sunshine says:

You got that so right, Amira…a simple cold in no time flat can make us feel so rotten and frail! I guess that is to make us appreciate the healthy days, huh?
Hey, thanks…always enjoy you dropping by. Have a great week!! 🙂

Sometimes, maybe most of the time, it’s not the answer but it is how you approach the question. Do I answer it directly, with physical answers? Or do I start babbling, trying to explain, digging deep to your thought process? Do I blurt out my final as soon as, or do I explain first then answer at the end? Do I answer with “it depends, well… “, or a simple yes or no will do?

I am thankful for …. Let me sleep on this. 😀

    • Sunshine says:

Hahahahhhaha!! Only from Rommel would we have a philosophical roundabout answer only to be left with still a question hanging for an answer!! You are delightfully good!!! 🙂

With the extra sleep, go and have yourself a smashing week!

I am thankful that someone–through your post–asked me what I am thankful for. I also want to second your statement that we have spiritual freedom and freedom of speech in this country. Our blogs would not be possible without these gifts.

    • Sunshine says:

Kozo…you are so right that our spiritual freedoms & free speech truly are precious gifts and not to be taken for granted. So glad you shared this thought… Thank you! 😉
